December 17, 2021 - Golf Cart Accidents

A woman who police say began drinking at this year’s Villages Christmas parade was jailed hours later after crashing her golf cart.

The 63-year-old Village of Liberty Park woman had been drinking throughout the day during the parade at the Polo Fields, Villages-News reports. She was driving a golf cart at around 7:30 p.m. when the vehicle reportedly hit a curb and ejected both the woman and a passenger.

The situation took another turn when emergency medical service providers arrived on the scene.

“EMS personnel attempted to assess [her] condition, but she began yelling and cursing, including profanity aimed at President Joe Biden,” Villages-News reports. “She also turned her anger at EMS personnel and shouted, ‘I’m not vaccinated!’”

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was "belligerent" toward a nurse, according to the news report. She was charged with DUI and disorderly conduct after breath tests showed she had a blood alcohol content of more than 0.24 percent, three times the legal limit.

The woman was later released from jail on a $2,000 bond.

Injured in a DUI Golf Cart Accident? Know Your Rights

Although the woman’s interaction with medical staff and her level of intoxication are out of the ordinary, the sad truth is that people often get behind the wheel of golf carts and other vehicles while intoxicated by alcohol or drugs.

Anyone caught driving a golf cart while intoxicated faces the same DUI charges imposed on car, truck and other drivers who operate their vehicles while intoxicated.

Drunk golf cart drivers are also legally responsible for any injuries that they cause as a result.

If you have been injured in an accident involving a drunk golf cart driver, you have the power to seek compensation for medical expenses, property damage and other consequences of the collision. To obtain money damages, you have to identify the person responsible for the accident and prove that he or she is legally liable.

The process for seeking compensation for injuries sustained in a DUI golf cart crash is completely separate from any criminal prosecution of a drunk driver. An experienced golf cart accident lawyer can help you understand your rights and explore your options for taking action.
