A Florida man was tragically killed when two trucks recently collided on I-75 near Wildwood, yet another reminder of the risk that big rigs pose to everyone on the road.

A 31-year-old man from Spring Hill was killed in the crash, which happened in late July, According to Villages News. He was driving a tractor-trailer truck and failed to slow for traffic before rear-ending another truck, the news outlet reports.

Both trucks overturned in the median near Exit 321, snarling traffic in both directions.

The Spring Hill man was injured when his vehicle reportedly burst into flames. The driver of the second truck, a 69-year-old from Dade City, escaped his vehicle uninjured.

The tragic accident highlights the serious hazards that come with getting on the road with big tractor-trailers and other trucks.

Trucks’ sheer size and the speed at which they regularly travel make truck accidents often severe. These collisions regularly result in serious injuries and even death, along with significant vehicle damage.

That is not to mention that truck drivers are routinely pushed to the brink by their employers, leading to fatigue that increases the risk of a collision. Some trucking companies additionally cut corners on inspection and maintenance, making accidents all the more likely.
