The unidentified New York resident was driving a golf cart on Morse Boulevard when he collided with a Mercedes, Villages-News reports. He was ejected from the vehicle, although it was not immediately apparent whether he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
A 62-year-old Villages resident who was driving the car involved in the accident was not injured, according to Villages-News and Click Orlando. She collided with the golf cart, which Click Orlando says was traveling east on a private road before entering the intersection with Morse Boulevard.
The accident comes as local authorities are adding turn lanes to the busiest intersection in The Villages, the intersection of Morse Boulevard and County Road 466.
Injured in a Golf Cart Accident? Understand Your Rights
Golf cart accidents are an unfortunately common occurrence in The Villages, where many people use motorized carts as their primary way of getting from Point A to Point B.
The good news is that there are several steps that you can take to enhance your safety behind the wheel. That includes buckling up. Wearing a seatbelt is a vital safety measure that protects people from being ejected from vehicles in the event of a crash.
When accidents do happen, anyone injured in a golf cart collision has the right to seek compensation from those responsible. The money damages typically available in these cases include compensation for medical bills, property damage, missed wages during recovery, and other financial implications stemming from the injuries.
To get that compensation, you generally have to prove negligence. This legal theory holds people and entities responsible when they do not live up to a specific “duty of care.” Car, truck, motorcycle, and golf cart drivers, for example, owe others on the road a duty to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe way. Those who do not live up to this responsibility are considered negligent and liable for any accidents resulting.
