A tragic accident recently claimed the life of an Orlando man after he was struck by two different vehicles while attempting to cross the street.

The 48-year-old man was attempting to cross Silver Star Road on a recent evening in May when he was struck by a Mercedes, according to Click Orlando. He was then run over by an unidentified sport utility vehicle, local police told the news outlet.

The SUV did not stop at the scene of the accident and state troopers were still trying to locate the vehicle. The man, who was dragged by the vehicle, died at the scene of the crash.

The fatal accident is yet another reminder of the hazards that pedestrians face in Florida and across the country.

A Marion County woman was killed earlier this year when she was also struck by two different vehicles while crossing U.S. 301 near Summerfield. The drivers of both cars in that accident said they did not see the woman, who was walking in an unlit area that had not been designated for foot traffic.

Legal Rights in Pedestrian Accidents

Anyone who is injured in a pedestrian or other accident in Florida has a legal right to hold those responsible for the crash fully accountable under the law. That includes seeking money damages, which are largely designed to put a person injured in an accident back in the place that he or she was in financially before the accident.

The money damages usually available in Florida pedestrian accident cases includes money for past and future medical bills. Additional compensation is also available for property damage, missed wages and pain suffering and emotional distress.

In a tragic situation – like the Orlando accident – in which a person is killed in a pedestrian accident, his or her loved ones can seek similar compensation for wrongful death. Although no amount of money can bring back your loved one, this compensation can help reduce the financial burden associated with the death.
