July 30, 2021 - Golf Cart Accidents

A quick trip to the local bank recently left one Villages resident in handcuffs, arrested for operating her golf cart while intoxicated.

The 70-year-old woman, who lives in the Village of Glenbrook, was nabbed by cops at Citizens First Bank at Southern Trace Plaza, Villages-News reports. Police were responding to a call about a “suspicious person,” according to the news outlet.

The officer who arrived on the scene reportedly found the woman in the golf cart with the keys in the ignition. She agreed to take a field sobriety and blood alcohol content (BAC) test after the officer said she appeared to have been drinking.

The woman was reportedly unable to complete the field sobriety test. Her blood alcohol content registered at 0.149% and 0.153%, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08%. She was arrested, taken to Sumter County Jail and later released on a $1,000 bond.

Injured in DUI Golf Cart Accident? Know Your Rights

The good news is that the episode did not result in a crash. Getting behind the wheel of a golf cart - or any other vehicle - is a reckless decision that puts everyone else on the road at risk. Unfortunately, drunk driving accidents are far too common and often result in serious and even life-threatening injuries.

Anyone who drives a golf cart while intoxicated faces the same DUI charges imposed on car, truck and other drivers who operate vehicles under the influence. He or she is also likely to be responsible for any injuries that they cause as a result.

A person who is injured in an accident involving a drunk golf cart driver has the right to seek compensation from those responsible. The money damages typically available include compensation for medical bills, property damage and other impacts of the crash. In addition, in the tragic event that a person dies in a golf cart accident, his or her loved ones can seek similar damages for wrongful death

A seasoned attorney can evaluate your case, help you protect your rights and seek the maximum compensation for your injuries.
