A Villages resident recently landed in the hospital after losing control of his gold cart near a tunnel.
The 89-year-old man’s foot got “stuck” on the accelerator pedal of his 2010 Yamaha golf cart on a recent afternoon in The Villages, according to Villages-News. He lost control of the vehicle while trying to dislodge his foot, Florida Highway Patrol told the news outlet.
The cart eventually collided with the tunnel, which runs under Buena Vista Boulevard and connects the Village of Bridgeport with a multi-use path in front of Palmer Legends Country Club. The vehicle overturned as a result of the collision. It is not clear whether the man was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver was sent to Ocala Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

There are a number of steps that gold cart drivers can take to keep safe behind the wheel. It starts with buckling up. Although seat belts are not mandatory in golf carts in the Sunshine State, they are a vital safety protection. A seat belt can keep people from being ejected from the cart in the event of a crash.
The good news for anyone injured in a golf cart accident in Florida is that you have the right to seek compensation from those responsible for the crash. The compensation typically available in these situations includes money damages for medical bills and property damage, as well as additional compensation designed to put a person back in the place he or she was in before the accident.
In the tragic instance in which a person is killed in a collision, his or her family has the right to seek similar compensation for wrongful death. The money damages in those cases are designed to compensate family members for the loss of a loved one.
