March 13, 2026 - Golf Cart Accidents

Two Villagers were recently sent to the hospital after two golf cart crashes in less than a 24-hour span.

The first collision happened on the Brownwood Bridge over State Road 44. The details of the single-vehicle crash were not clear, but Villages-News reported that a woman in the golf cart was hospitalized with a head injury.

The second crash occurred the next morning when a Villager “unintentionally drove past the multi-modal path entrance near the gate at the Village of Belvedere,” according to Villages News. The vehicle collided with a stopped golf cart, which was waiting to make a left turn onto Belvedere Boulevard.

The injured Villager in the first accident was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center. The Villager hurt in the other collision was treated at UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital.

The accidents highlight how common golf cart crashes are in The Villages, where these vehicles are a popular mode of transportation. More than 130 golf cart accidents happen in The Villages every year, according to a 2023 study by the Taylor & Francis Group. The accidents leave 65 people with injuries serious enough to send them to the hospital, and another nine dead or disabled, on average, per year.

Two people were killed in January, for example, when their golf cart was struck by a car at the intersection of County Road 109 and U.S. 27. Police said the golf cart driver ran a red light before being struck by the vehicle.

Meanwhile, a Villager was critically injured when his golf cart overturned in the Village of Glenbrook. The man reportedly attempted to pass another golf cart that had slowed to make a turn, but clipped the lead vehicle’s front bumper.

Legal Rights for People Injured in Villages Golf Cart Crashes

Anyone who is injured in a golf cart crash has the right to seek compensation from those responsible. That includes negligent drivers and their insurers.

The money damages typically available in golf cart accident cases include compensation for medical bills, property damage, missed wages during recuperation, and any impact of the injuries on a person’s ability to earn a living and enjoy daily activities.

In the tragic case that a person dies in a golf cart collision, his or her loved ones can seek similar compensation through a wrongful death claim. No amount of money can ever replace a loved one, but compensation can help ease some of the financial strain that often comes with losing a loved one.
