According to WTXL, state troopers in the state of Florida spent the month of September trying to raise awareness about the very real dangers that are associated with drowsy driving.  Law enforcement agencies also participated in September's drowsy driving awareness efforts because they wanted to help motorist better understand the very serious consequences that can come fatigued driving, including causing a death or injury and ending up being faced with criminal charges. 

The statistics are clear on the elevated risk to motorists when there is someone on the road who is fatigued. As WTXL explains, there were around 4,300 car accidents across Florida in the past year, A total of 29 of the people who died were Floridians who lost their lives as a result of drowsy driving.

The Highway Patrol Capital for the state of Florida warned that driving while drowsy could be the equivalent to driving distracted. Both behaviors are unsafe and can make accidents significantly more likely to occur. Both behaviors should definitely be avoided.

“If you feel you are too tired to be driving, you are too tired to be driving,” the Florida Highway Patrol Captain said to WTXL. "Don’t get behind the wheel. Don’t put yourself in danger, or anyone else in danger out on the roadway."
