A recent accident in the Villages sent a golf cart driver to the hospital and left a car driver ticketed by the police.
A Villages man was driving his Yamaha golf cart on Tamarind Grove Run one rainy afternoon in April when the vehicle was struck by a Buick Encore, according to Villages-News. The golf cart swerved to try to avoid a crash and collided with the side of the car, police told the news outlet.
The golf cart driver was transported to a local hospital with head trauma. The car driver was cited by police for running a stop sign. Villages-News reports that the woman had previously had her driving privileges suspended after being charged with DUI following an incident at Cody’s Original Roadhouse and Lake Sumter Landing.
The collision is an unfortunately common occurrence in the Villages, where golf carts are a popular way to get from Point A to Point B. A golf cart driver was recently injured in a single-vehicle accident, for example, when his foot apparently was stuck on the accelerator and his cart slammed into the side of a tunnel.
Legal Rights for People Injured in Golf Cart Accidents
Anyone injured in a golf cart accident in the Villages or throughout Florida has the right to seek compensation from those responsible for the crash. That includes negligent car drivers, as well as vehicle and parts manufacturers who put shoddy products on the road.
The money damages typically available in golf cart accident cases are designed to put the injured person back in the same place financially that he or she was in before the crash. Those damages usually include money for medical bills, missed income, property damage and pain, suffering and emotional distress.
In the tragic case that a person dies in a crash, his or her loved ones can seek similar compensation for wrongful death. Although no amount of money can bring a loved one back, compensation can help ease the financial burden.
